Birth of a Collection

Birth of a Collection explores the remarkable evolution of the Louvre Abu Dhabi collection over its first decade, continuing the story begun with Birth of a Museum (2013).

Organised across four chapters The Ancient World, The Medieval World, The Early Modern World, and The Modern and Contemporary World, the book presents more than 200 exceptional artworks and objects acquired by the museum. Through themes including cultural exchange, the representation of power, the development of artistic traditions, and emerging art scenes, it offers new perspectives on the universal narrative of Louvre Abu Dhabi.

Featuring scholarly essays and artwork descriptions by around 35 art historians, archaeologists, curators, and museum specialists, this beautifully illustrated 300-page volume provides an in-depth look at the collection and the stories connecting its works across cultures and centuries.

Available in English, Arabic, and French, Birth of a Collection is a celebration of ten years of acquisitions and the continuing development of the Louvre Abu Dhabi collection.
