The Story Behind Lebanon The Phoenicians and the Alphabets.

Lebanon has preserved a rich history and a variety of civilization since ancient times, and its traces are still evident in Beirut, Sidon, Tyre, Baalbec, Byblos/ Jbeil, under every stone, oak tree, cedar tree and almost everywhere, and whose roots are deeply entrenched in the history of its great people.

Lebanon possesses an intellectual asset in literature, art, sciences and culture and will always spread peace and values to the world.

Back into the mist of time Lebanon was the land of the Phoenicians (c.1500 – c.300 BC).

Their Thalassocratic civilization was known for their ingenuity in riding the sea and skilled traders, so they turned the Mediterranean into a trading lake linking the ancient world.

Their best-known legacy is the world’s oldest verified alphabet, registered in 2005 at the UNESCO as a Lebanese heritage.

The Phoenician alphabet forms part of the Semitic language consisting of dozens of distinct languages and modern-day dialects that include: Arabic, Hebrew, Amharic, Phoenician, Maltese and many other branches.
